Magnet Dance Director
Ms. Leanet Martin

Leanet Martin’s love for dance started at early age; growing up in Miami, she was afforded the opportunity to train and dance with teachers from prominent dance companies. These include instructors from the New York City Ballet, Martha Graham Dance Company, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Boston, Miami City and Joffrey Ballet. She also performed professionally with the Florida Grand Opera, was a member of the Wolfson Dancers, Ballet Etudes and Ballet Theatre of Miami. She studied at New World School of the Arts and also obtained a degree in Developmental Psychology from Florida International University. After teaching dance for Miami-Dade County Public Schools, and in the private sector Leanet moved to Charleston, South Carolina with her husband to spearhead the dance program at River Oaks Middle School when it first opened its doors in 2007.
Since then she was asked to take over the Dance Program at Rollings Middle School of the Arts, she managed to win several overall choreography and special Judges Awards in the competition arena, and actively participated as one of the instructors for the dance core of the “Gateway program for the gifted and talented”. She also served as adjunct professor for the prestigious South Carolina Governor’s School of the Arts and Humanities’ outreach program.
Leanet is very excited to be back home and to become part of the South Miami Middle School staff. It is going to be a very exciting year.
